Our private nature reserve is located in the Sta. Bárbara department, nestled in a region of sub-Andean mountains, in the small and traditional town of Villa Monte. We are 140 km from San Salvador de Jujuy, halfway between Palma Sola (15 km) and El Fuerte (18 km), which are the closest towns to Ecoportal de Piedra.
The property is a natural area of more than 800 hectares, beautifully decorated by Mother Earth with different layers of Yungas, also known as mountain forests. It features an altitudinal range from 1,000 to 2,600 meters, with a subtropical climate that favors a great diversity of fauna and flora. Each season brings its own unique beauty.
We border and work together with the Provincial Reserve Las Lancitas, forming a protected natural area of around 11,000 hectares that preserves the Yungas and Chaco Serrano regions.
Due to the low human influence, nature can be enjoyed here in its purest state. We are also one of the most biodiverse environments in Argentina, with abundant birdlife and unique characteristics of the different Yungas and Chaco Serrano layers. This fulfills an essential role in protecting part of a natural corridor between the national parks El Rey, Calilegua, and Pizarro, as well as a transition area between the Yungas (mountain forest) and the dry Chaco (semi-arid forests). These corridors are essential for the survival of several emblematic or endangered species

Getting to Ecoportal de Piedra
The entrance to Ecoportal de Piedra is on Provincial Route No. 6, in the area of Villa Monte, San Rafael.
If you’re coming from San Salvador de Jujuy (downtown or the airport) or from Salta, start by heading toward San Pedro on National Route 34. A few kilometers before reaching San Pedro, turn onto Provincial Route No. 1. Stay on Route 1 until you cross the Lavallén River bridge—right after the bridge you’ll come to a fork in the road. Both routes can get you to Ecoportal de Piedra:
Option 1 (left fork – easier road):
Keep going on Route 1 for several kilometers until you reach the junction with Provincial Route No. 6. Turn onto Route 6 and continue toward Villa Monte, passing through Palma Sola. This route is almost entirely paved—only the last 14 km after Palma Sola are gravel, but it’s usually in good condition.Option 2 (right fork – scenic route):
This road takes you to Santa Clara. From there, along the main avenue, look for the turn onto Provincial Route No. 6, which leads to Ecoportal de Piedra via a beautiful scenic mountainside road with amazing views. In summer, we recommend checking at the Santa Clara police station first to make sure the road is passable. A 4x4/pickup is best, since the road is all gravel. You’ll arrive after passing through El Fuerte.
You can also simply search “Ecoportal de Piedra” on Google Maps, and your GPS will guide you all the way here.
Public transportation:
You can hire a private car service (remís) from the airport straight to Ecoportal de Piedra. There are also buses from San Salvador or San Pedro to Palma Sola—and if you coordinate with us in advance, we can pick you up from Palma Sola.
